Tokyo, June 20, 2024 – ZIPAIR Tokyo announced that the carrier will co-sponsor the first ever pickleball international tournament, hosted by the Pickleball Japan Federation (hereinafter PJF) in December 2024. This will be the largest international pickleball tournament in the country of Japan and participants will include top international athletes across the globe.
Pickleball is a recreational sport that combines the elements of tennis, badminton, and table tennis. Known as one of the fastest growing sports in the United States, more than nine million individuals have participated in the sport through private clubs and leagues. Featuring a compact court and simple rules, people of all ages enjoy the sport. In addition, the sport creates a networking opportunity in the corporate world. About the Sponsorship Established in 2018, ZIPAIR features a fully customizable travel experience on medium to long-haul routes. Customization is a value shared by pickleball, as the sport does not rely on an organized facility and individuals can participate at their own pace. PJF's philosophy is based on fostering an inclusive culture that promotes human connections and realizing a diverse and peaceful community. Tournament Outline Approximately 500 athletes from Japan, the U.S., Australia, and Asia plan to participate in the event. The tournament will be held at the Ariake Tennis Forest Park, which also hosted the Tokyo Olympics. Expected to be one of the largest pickleball tournaments in Japan, including participation from top international athletes. Tournament champions will receive ZIPAIR Points and additional prizes.
