Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA) procedures for those who travelling to Canada
The Government of Canada has introduced a new requirement to obtain the Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA) for travelers whose nationalities are exempt from a visa to enter Canada.
From March 15th, 2016, passengers departing to Canada or connecting in Canada to other countries will be required to have an eTA.Please note that if you are a qualifying nationality and do not have an eTA, you may not be able to complete boarding procedures due to instructions from Canadian authorities.
Overview of the eTA
Passengers can apply the eTA through the website. After completing the procedures, you will receive the eTA confirmation via e-mail within few minutes.Although it is possible to apply for the eTA at the last minute, the Canadian government recommends that you apply for the eTA as early as possible when you begin planning your trip to Canada. You will be required to provide your passport information and e-mail address, and to pay a credit card fee of 7 Canadian dollars.
The eTA application website (Canada.ca/eTA) is now accepting applications in English guidance only and the opening of Japanese language guidance has not been decided. The eTA is valid for a period of 5 years (however, if your passport is due to expire within the 5 years, your eTA will remain valid until the expiration date on your passport). You may re-enter Canada as many times as you wish within the period of validity of your eTA.
